There is a huge difference between a person who desires to be trusted by you and a person who desires to rule over you. Huge. One of those is based on maturity, confidence, and respect. The other comes from a place of selfishness, insecurity, and predation. Don’t be fooled by the arrogant lust for power that masquerades as concern for your well-being; it is usually an indication of unresolved issues and those issues will only be resolved internally. People who have felt powerless and have not properly healed will seek out someone who willingly gives them the power that they are seeking to regain for themselves.
- Trust advises upon request. Power imposes its will.
- Trust guides. Power controls.
- Trust enquires honestly regarding your opinion. Power informs selfishly regarding its opinion.
- Trust invites. Power asserts.
- Trust is an open hand. Power is a pointed finger.
- Trust shares. Power hoards.
- Trust is about deep confidence. Power is about hollow bravado.
- Trust suggests. Power dictates.
- Trust wants to be useful to you. Power wants you to be useful to itself.
Don’t settle for the latter if you desire the former.
