Instructions for a walk in the woods

  • Never turn around to check behind you. You’ll see nothing, but once you start doing it you won’t be able to stop, and an ominous feeling will follow you until you don’t lock your house’s door behind you.
  • If you stand very still and listen you will hear the woods calling for you. Don’t answer. Never answer.
  • You’ll hear things quietly following you, hidden in the trees by your sides. It’s okay, they’re just checking on you.
  • Don’t be scared, but be really, really wary.
  • If you have a bad feeling about taking a certain path, don’t. You’ll avoid whatever is waiting for you at the end of it.
  • You never know what may be buried under the soil you’re walking on. Remember that every time you take a step. Pray that whatever it is, it won’t wake up.
  • Be careful not to step on any beetle, or you’ll never get rid of them.
  • If you bring a knife with you, name it. Otherwise the blade will turn against you as soon as you try to use it.
  • Make sure you remember the way back home. As soon as you get lost, you’re just another piece of fresh meat.

PSA – How to Export your Tumblr Blog

Remember a few months ago when it felt like every single website in existence updated their privacy policy? That was because of GDPR, the General Data Protection Regulation from the EU.

Another part of GDPR? Right of access / right to data portability.

What this means is that if you ask for it, companies are to give you access to your data so that you could theoretically move it to another service. Many companies have done this by allowing you to export your data and download it. Even if a company doesn’t provide an automated way, you should still be able to contact them and they should provide your data – it doesn’t have to be automatically generated and downloadable.

Tumblr does provide an automated way to export your blog. This should be done individually for each sideblog as well, if you want. (These are instructions for the website – not the app.)

  1. Go to your blog settings page, ie https://www.tumblr.com/settings/blog/<your-blog-name>.
  2. Look for the Export section (currently at the bottom)
  3. Click the “Export <your-blog-name>” button.
  4. Depending on the size of your blog, it may take a while to generate the export. It will say that it’s processing, and you can reload the page and come back later to check if it’s done.
  5. When your export is processed and ready, the Export section will have a button to download.

Once you’ve downloaded the file, extract it to a folder on your computer. It will contain:

  • A media folder with images, gifs, videos, and audio files.
  • A messages xml file. Your messages are in here, even if it doesn’t look “human readable” and is gibberish to you, I promise. There are tools that will “beautify” xml to make it more readable.
  • A posts.zip file. Extract this and you’ll see an html folder that has an html file for each of your posts.

Holy shit they finally did it.

BTW, the size of the export varies wildly based on how much media content is on your blog. I’ve got a main and a sideblog with a little over 6000 posts each, one a bit heavier on text, the other skewing more towards photosets and the like. The zip files are 3 gigs and 11 gigs respectively.

Hm. I should do this with the boys’ blogs just in case. I backup their photos, but I do love the silly stories that we post on their pages, too.

Imagine being a kid in school. Your teacher comes up with an idea for class picture. Every student will draw pictures of their friends.

Everyone starts drawing enthusiasticly, and can’t wait to see what they look like in the drawings. When pictures are ready you notice that popular students have more pictures than rest, but nobody has done a drawing of you. The teacher notices that too, and asks if someone would do your picture. To your horror the class clown takes the job, and comes up with a caricature of you. Others are laughing, but you’re not. You feel awful. The teacher notices that. and asks again someone to do a drawing of you. One of the ‘good students’ starts drawing, but the result is forced. It’s just a drawing of a generic child wearing a shirt of same color as you a wearing. There’s no spirit, no soul in it. You start sensing that the class is geting frustrated with you. They want to be done with this. You ask quietly the teacher if you could do a drawing yourself.

After school your classmates confront you. Why did you have to make such a big deal out of it? The first picture was funny. The second picture was just fine! The drawing you did yourself wasn’t right, do you think you are that good-looking? There were other kids who got only one or two pictures of themselves. Who are you to demand special treatment? Maybe there would have been a picture of you if you weren’t such annoying baby, nobody likes you anyway, and nobody’s going to if you keep on being like that, you don’t deserve a drawing!

This could be story of bullying, but it’s also about how I see portraying LGBTQ+-people and PoC in mainstream entertainment.

Thanks to Fandoms and Feminism for inspiration!

This is a great metaphor.

This is the most accurate fucking post I’ve ever seen in my life oh my god.

This is incredible. A perfect metaphor. And it really points out how fucking childish it is to insist that representation does not matter.

Why I’m So Angry

catwinchester:

quickienewyork:

I’m trying to calm down enough to get some of this out, but it’s difficult. I’m angry. And while I’m angry for a whole lot of reasons, the one big one that stands out is the one Tumblr and Apple would really like us to ignore.

So I’ll try to be as clear and concise as I can.

Both Apple and Tumblr are more comfortable with violence than sex.

It sounds simple, but the truth is more terrifying.

They are explicitly saying that they find a gif of someone being decapitated less offensive than the nipples of a woman.

When someone tells you their values, you should believe them.

Tumblr and Apple are saying that they are more comfortable with images of swastikas (an image which unequivocally advocates genocide) than they are with a naked human body.

Let that sink it. It’s not a fluke or a meaningless and unrelated result of a content policy change. It’s what they firmly believe.

When someone tells you their values, you should believe them.

Tumblr and Apple (and most other US companies to be sure) believe that mass murder, serial killings, rape, eye gouging, strangling, mutilation, child abuse, and a thousand other graphic images, videos, and GIFS are more acceptable to them than a nipple.

When someone tells you their values, you should believe them.

When we culturally decide (which have done forever) that violence is more acceptable than sex, then we create a culture which is more acceptance of violence than it is sex.

Which means that more people will die because that is exactly what happens when you suppress sexuality and glorify violence.

And Tumblr and Apple know this and they do not care.

When someone tells you their values, you should believe them.

I rather liked that I could share a random sexy gif, just like I share adult things with other adults in real life.

I mean, that naked men running gif, with penises flopping everywhere, is funny! So is that penis stage show gif, or synchronised penis flopping!!

Now I’ll have to go back to PMing my friends that grown up sort of content.

But I’ll bet I could share a gif from Hostel (that nasty, sadistic horror film) and no one in management would bat an eyelid.

Western morals are so fucked up.

We at Piczel.tv are sad to see Tumblr’s stance against NSFW artists, and would like to offer up our services as an alternative to Tumblr’s arbitrary shadowbans, deletions, and general stupidity.

We’re happy to host adult artists who are looking for a new place to call home, and are planning a few key upgrades and features.

Effectively immediately though, our gallery upload size restriction has been removed, to be likely raised to 10MB in the near future for non-premium users.

As always, we support image sets, and don’t compress anything.

Firstly, for those that have been using tumblr as a portfolio, you’ll need a way to download all of your art, if you don’t have backups somewhere else. We are planning a tool for Piczel.tv that will import zip files full of images, including titles and descriptions if we are able.

Second, we’re planning the following upgrades to piczel in the coming weeks:

1. Bulk upload/import to your piczel.tv gallery
2. Gallery UI cleanup and improvements
3. Gallery performance improvements
4. Gallery comments with in line image and custom emote support
5. Site-wide PMs (in the vein of tumblr asks, but better)
6. Archive button for your piczel account

Don’t forget to follow us on twitter, we may be deleted on the 17th with everyone else. Until then, we’ll make posts here to keep everyone in the loop

Please consider reblogging this to help artists in need.

@hazeinart maybe this place?
